The current news in Serbia is that the Serbian parliament apologized for Srebrenica, the site of a massacre of thousands of Muslim men and boys during the Balkan war in 1995. The parliament voted to pass the resolution that accepts responsibility and condemns the killings. More information can be found here.
This act shows the first steps in the process of healing and forgiveness. Humility is the first step, realizing that one has done wrong or hurt another. This must be acknowledged. That means setting aside pride and focus on self. Then, an outward acknowledgement of this is necessary to the party hurt, along with remorse and action to change.
This is the same process with God. We are sinners - we have done wrong. We must come to the full understanding of our rebellion and rejection of Him, humbly recognizing the horror of our sin against a Holy God. We must tell Him, in humility, that we have sinned against Him. And we must be willing to repent, to turn away from those sins and change.
1 John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Pray for the people of Serbia, that they would humble themselves before God, repent of their sins, and allow the forgiveness of the Lord transform their lives.
