Srecan Bozic! Isus se rodi! (Merry Christmas! Jesus is born!)
Srecna Nova Godina! (Happy New Year!)
Serbia is now in the full holiday spirit, celebrating New Year's with the world on January 1st. However, Serbs celebrate Christmas on January 7th, which is December 25th on the Julian calendar. Serbian New Year is the 14th of January according to the same calendar. Much of the world uses the Gregorian calendar, as does Serbia for civil matters (every day business), but the Orthodox Church uses the Julian calendar.
During this Christmas season, pray that the Serbian people will focus on the true meaning of Christmas, the love of God the Father sending Jesus, His One and Only Son, to walk among us, to die for our sins, to be raised to life victoriously, to give eternal life to those who will put their trust in Him and give Him their lives.
Pray that the Holy Spirit will convict many of their sin and need for a Savior. Pray for believers to use the many opportunities that the season gives to share the Hope that is within them. Pray for many Serbs to trust Christ today!
