schoolchildren_nis_2_20090207_1414571222 Serbian children begin school at the age of seven as they enter the first grade.  They will remain with the same teacher for four years until they reach the fifth grade.  Middle school (5th - 8th) is a time of difficult academics and decisions about where they would like to attend High School.  There are several different types of high schools including an equivalent to our college preparatory and vocational schools.
However, the students here have a lot of pressure because they have to score high on certain tests to get into certain schools.

Another major difference is that the children attend school in shifts.  One month they will go to school in the mornings and the next month that will go in the afternoons.  Some schools in Serbia rotate every week or every other week!

However, children everywhere are the same.  Some love to learn and others struggle.  Some love to be around their friends while others do not like to leave home.

Pray for the Serbian children that they will seek God in their lives.
